Episode 17 – 18th of August – 21th of August resting day at anchor, sailing to Kiel, Getting it on in the NOK and meeting up with Valerie

Well there is really not much to say. We rested and did some stuff on the boat and enjoyed ourselves. Water got warmer. From 16°C here close to Kiel we think it must have been something like 20°C

We woke up, got the anchor up, left under sail towards Kiel. Summer, proper wind and a super chill sail through the Kieler Förde. Going directly to the dock for the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal at Holtenau. Since the NOK is free (I think because of corona) the docking is free too. We visited Kiel, had a proooooper burger and just did mainly sightseeing. Next day was gonna be tight.

Benni going to a boat shop for some shroud tensioner and rope and a compass and so on.

Kristina and me going for lots of groceries and filling up gas to the spare cans. Prepping the boat and just in time getting into the lock, to make it to Rendsburg (1/3 of the canals distance) to meet up with Valerie. She gave us – I’m not kidding – ALL THE MAPS necessary to cross until northern spain. Maybe further. Basically maps worth 600 euro. Well borrowed of course. And she is planning on doing a bigger passage with us soon.

We arrived late. Made a fool out of ourself trying to go in to a box way to big for us. Had showers, bought BBQ stuff, washed our clothes. Yeah it was a full full day. And we finished it with some very nice BBQ at the marina Rendsburg together with Valerie. She basically came (almost) just for us, to bring us the maps and Reeds Almanach. She deserves some props – seriously greatful move.

The marina? Highly recommended. Good prices, very clean, plenty of space, protected from wind and even some infrastructure around it.
